Tertiary Filtration - Cloth Media Filters

Low-energy, compact cloth media filtration for TSS and phosphorus polishing to meet stringent effluent discharge limits.

What is Tertiary Cloth Media Filtration?

Tertiary filtration polishes secondary effluent to meet stringent TSS and phosphorus discharge limits required for nutrient-sensitive receiving waters and water reuse applications. Cloth media filters have become widely adopted for their compact footprint, low energy consumption, and simple operation. They achieve consistent performance across variable loading conditions without the media replacement costs of granular filters.

Equipment We Represent

MFC - Fixed Plate Cloth Media Disk Filters

  • Industry's first cloth media filter with no internal moving parts — no rotating discs, vacuum pumps, drive motors, or spray bars
  • Filtration and backwash controlled by differential head, compressed air, and pneumatic valves only
  • Vertically placed cloth media panels for reduced footprint
  • MFC-P — Packaged 100% stainless steel systems, 10 GPM to 6.0 MGD
  • MFC-C — Modular components for new or existing concrete tanks
  • Published references: California Title 22 reuse, Texas reuse, and full-scale testing at Madison, WI (MMSD)
  • All equipment designed, fabricated, and assembled in the USA

Entex Technologies - FlowTex 2nd Generation Disc Filter

  • High-performance tertiary filter with fixed discs and rotating vacuum heads
  • Outside-to-inside flow pattern captures solids as small as 10 microns
  • Factory-built prefabricated system with second-generation improvements
  • Single disc segments — twice as fast to remove for maintenance as first-generation designs
  • Integrated automatic pump priming and UHMW vacuum assembly
  • Optional PEAK remote monitoring integration
  • Scalable by disc count and diameter for both small and large flow applications

Applications

TSS Polishing
Achieving <5 mg/L TSS for nutrient-sensitive or reuse permit requirements
Phosphorus Removal
Capturing chemical phosphorus precipitates for TP <0.1 mg/L compliance
Water Reuse / Reclamation
Title 22 and similar state reuse standards requiring tertiary treatment
Retrofit Applications
Compact systems for upgrading existing plants in limited footprint conditions

Why Winschel Environmental?

  • Two complementary technologies — MFC's no-moving-parts design vs. Entex's rotating vacuum head — we can match the right filter to your site and budget
  • Proven references — MFC has California Title 22 and full-scale MMSD references; Entex's second-generation improvements address first-gen maintenance concerns
  • USA manufacturing — Both manufacturers fabricate domestically for short lead times and local support
  • Virginia coverage — Local support for system selection, startup, and cloth media replacement
