Grit Removal — Headworks

Protect your downstream equipment and digesters by capturing sand, gravel, and inorganic grit at the front of the plant.

What is Grit Removal?

Grit removal separates sand, gravel, eggshells, and other heavy inorganic materials from wastewater at the headworks — before they can damage pumps, clog pipes, or accumulate in digesters and aeration basins. Effective grit removal directly extends the service life of downstream mechanical equipment and reduces costly cleanout operations throughout the plant. Even small amounts of uncontrolled grit accumulation in digesters can significantly reduce effective volume and treatment capacity over time.

Equipment We Represent

Fluidyne — Hydro-Grit Vortex Grit Removal System

  • Uses forced and free vortex flow with gravity separation
  • High-efficiency model: 95% removal of all grit 74 microns and larger
  • Complete system includes: grit vortex chamber, AirCirc cleaning system, air-liquid separation unit, circulating jet motive nozzle, grit pump, blower station, and automatic control panel
  • Prefabricated total-package systems available — no concrete housing required

WTP Equipment — Vortex Grit Removal

  • Automatic grit separation from continuous wastewater flows
  • Available as low-footprint shop-fabricated package plants or designed for concrete tank installation
  • Grit settled, concentrated, washed of organics, and dewatered before discharge
  • Pump options: air-lift, recessed impeller, or self-priming grit pumps

WTP Equipment — Grit Classifiers

  • Final-stage grit processing — shafted or shaftless screw designs
  • Wide range of sizes and capacities
  • Optional cyclone concentrators for improved grit capture
  • Grit settled from feed slurry, concentrated, washed, and dewatered prior to discharge

WTP Equipment — Grit Collectors

  • Automatic conveyor systems for grit removal from continuous or batch flows
  • Shafted or shaftless grit conveyor screws for submerged duty
  • Suitable for horizontal aerated grit tanks or inclined collector configurations
  • Drive units located outside the tank for easy access and maintenance

DryCake — Sedivortex Grit Removal System

  • Sedivortex vortex grit chamber — up to 95% removal of grit to 105 micron, single units to 50 MGD
  • Sedigrit shaftless-screw grit classifier for washing and dewatering settled grit
  • Sedicyclone hydrocyclone for grit pre-concentration; Sediwash grit washer for organics removal
  • Low-footprint package or concrete-tank configurations
