Fine Screens - Headworks

Continuously cleaned belt-type fine screens for complete fine solids removal at wastewater plant headworks.

What are Fine Screens?

Fine screens provide continuous removal of fine solids from wastewater at the headworks, capturing material that passes through coarser bar screens. Belt-type fine screens use a traveling filter belt to capture screenings as wastewater flows through, then convey and discharge them automatically — with no scraper blades required. Fine screening reduces solids loading on downstream processes and protects pumps, aerators, and membrane systems.

Equipment We Represent

WTP Equipment - Filter Belt Fine Screen Model SB

  • Continuously cleaned, self-unloading fine screen using heavy-duty non-metallic and stainless steel 2-dimensional grid filtering/conveying belt
  • Individual belt elements interlock to form horizontal and vertical clear openings sized to trap fine solids
  • Each row of belt elements forms a shelf that positively lifts and removes larger debris
  • Timed belt motion coats the belt with screenings, progressively reducing clear opening size and increasing capture of finer particles
  • No submerged sprockets or bearings to corrode or foul — belt rides on frame-mounted dual roller chain rails
  • Stainless steel framework, covers, and chute construction
  • Spray washer for automatic screenings washing and carry-over elimination
  • Pivoting supports — entire screen rotates out of channel for access, inspection, and maintenance
  • Direct drive shaft-mounted AGMA II class helical gearmotor with stainless steel drive shaft
  • Screenings contained by side aprons and foot brush barrier; optional removable odor control covers
  • High level controller provides automatic override to continuous operation during high loading
  • Double overload protection — mechanical torque and motor current

The Model SB pairs with the WTP Screenings Washing Dewatering Press (Model CPW) as a complete integrated fine screening and screenings handling system — capture, remove, wash, compact, and dispose.

Applications

Municipal WWTP Headworks
Fine solids capture downstream of coarse bar screens to protect secondary treatment
MBR Pre-Treatment
Fine screening to protect membrane elements from hair, fibers, and debris
Combined Sewer Systems
High-capacity screening for wet weather flow events
Industrial Pretreatment
Fine solids removal from food processing, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing discharges

Why Winschel Environmental?

  • Integrated system capability — Model SB screen plus CPW press provides a complete screening/handling solution from one manufacturer
  • No submerged bearings — WTP's frame-mounted rail design eliminates the most common maintenance failure point in fine screens
  • Pivoting access — Full-channel rotation for inspection and maintenance without confined space entry
  • Virginia coverage — Local support from system selection through startup and wear part supply
