Dewatering - Water Treatment Residuals

Centrifuge and screw press dewatering for alum sludge, ferric sludge, and lime softening residuals.

What is Water Treatment Residuals Dewatering?

Water treatment residuals differ significantly from wastewater biosolids — alum and ferric sludges are gelatinous and particularly difficult to dewater, while lime softening sludges dewater readily but are highly abrasive. Equipment selection must account for these differences in residual characteristics to avoid chronic underperformance. Proper dewatering reduces disposal weight and volume, minimizing hauling costs and landfill fees.

Applications

Alum Sludge Dewatering
High-G centrifuge or screw press performance on difficult gelatinous alum residuals
Ferric Sludge Dewatering
Dewatering of ferric coagulation residuals for landfill disposal or beneficial reuse
Lime Softening Sludge
Abrasion-resistant dewatering of calcium carbonate-heavy lime residuals
Retrofit / Space-Constrained Sites
Small-footprint Prime Solution press for upgrading existing dewatering facilities

Why Winschel Environmental?

  • Water treatment residuals expertise — We understand that alum sludge is not biosolids and specify equipment accordingly
  • Two complementary technologies — DryCake centrifuge/screw press for high-throughput applications; Prime Solution for smaller plants or retrofits
  • Startup-ready skids — DryCake factory skids reduce field installation time and commissioning complexity
  • Virginia coverage — Local support from process evaluation through startup and long-term optimization
