Attached Growth Systems — Biological Treatment
MBBR and IFAS technologies from Entex — increase treatment capacity in existing tanks without adding footprint.
What is Attached Growth Biological Treatment?
Attached growth (fixed-film) biological treatment grows microorganisms on media surfaces rather than maintaining them in suspension. MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) and IFAS (Integrated Fixed-Film Activated Sludge) systems dramatically increase the biomass available for treatment within an existing tank volume — without requiring additional tankage. This makes them ideal for facility upgrades where expanding footprint is constrained by cost, space, or site conditions. The biofilm on the media provides stable, high-density treatment capacity even under variable loading conditions.
Equipment We Represent
Entex Technologies — WavTex (Moving Woven Media)
- Patent-pending EnTextile media sheets that move independently in the aeration basin
- No media retention screens required — unlike traditional MBBR plastic media
- Compatible with both fine and coarse bubble diffusers
- Achieves simultaneous nitrification/denitrification in a single tank
- Biologically active surface area: 1,156 m²/m³
- Applicable to IFAS and SFF process modes
Entex Technologies — Webitat (Fixed Stainless Steel Media)
- Patented BioWeb media (304L stainless steel) with integral diffusers and shrouding
- Shrouding maintains optimal biofilm thickness and prevents sloughing
- Three application variants:
- Lagoon upgrades — addresses mixing, aeration, and biomass concentration in a single module
- Oxidation ditch retrofits — the only proven in-situ IFAS upgrade for operating oxidation ditches
- SBR capacity increases — adds fixed-film biomass to existing SBR tanks
Entex Technologies — BioBloc (Floating Fixed-Film Modules)
- Floating fixed-film modules with integrated fine bubble diffusion
- Applicable to lagoons, tanks, and activated sludge systems
- 35+ facilities installed since 1999
- No plant downtime for installation — modules float out and connect air hoses
- Unit sizes from 40 to 480 cubic feet media volume
- BOD and ammonia removal with toggleable nitrification/denitrification mode
Entex Technologies — Packaged Plants
- Complete treatment solutions combining IFAS technology with packaged plant designs
- Capacity range: 10,000 GPD to 3.0 MGD
- Modular, compact footprint, quick installation
